Academic Eligibility

Academic Eligibility for Extra – Curricular Activities

Calvert County Public Schools policy #3352 pertains to high school and middle school academic eligibility for extra-curricular activities. This includes all activities that are sponsored by a staff member or a designee appointed by the principal, that meet a minimum of ten times each school year and that are not an extension of a curricular program.

A student must maintain a 70% grade point average (GPA), with no more than one failing grade (less than 60%). Students who fail a course worth two or more credits will be deemed ineligible at the time the report card is distributed. Final grades determine fall eligibility. Quarterly grades determine winter and spring eligibility.

A student may become eligible at the interim report period if the minimum requirements are met at that time. Students can’t become ineligible at the interim reporting period. In the case that eligibility pertains to an athlete, that athlete can practice with the team, but is not permitted to be an official member of the team until his eligibility requirements are fully met.

A student transitioning from middle school to high school, will be eligible to play fall sports at the beginning of the fall season regardless of their academic performance in 8th grade.
